WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE YOU?

We're a Lutheran Church, member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. But more important than our affiliation is our set of beliefs — Find out more about our beliefs.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We're located at 4412 Legacy Drive, Plano, TX 75024.

WHERE SHOULD I GO?

When you come for church, please feel free to park in our visitor spots. You'll find them by driving to the left side of the first building. Once you're there, just walk down the sidewalk between the buildings to the church. It's on the left side. Someone will be there to greet you. Don't hesitate to ask any questions!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

You will fit right in wearing just about anything whether it’s shorts and a T-shirt or a suit and tie, slacks and a polo or a fancy dress.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE WORSHIP SERVICE?

Our worship style is what some might call traditional or liturgical. That means we follow a similar order for our worship each Sunday.

We think the people who come to worship with us should be empowered to participate. That’s why we encourage people to sing and why you’ll often hear call and response between the pastor and the congregation

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS? WILL THEY ATTEND WORSHIP WITH ME?

We love having children in our services! We believe that worshiping together, as a family, is important for both children and parents, and encourage all of our families to attend worship together.

We do also operate a nursery during our second service. It's staffed by members of our congregation and you're welcome to take your kids there for some or all of the service. You can stay with them or leave them so you can worship.

WHO CAN TAKE COMMUNION?

We offer Holy Communion on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month. We invite all members of our congregation and other congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) to join us at the Lord’s table. We ask our visitors to speak with pastor before or after the service.

We understand that this practice can seem confusing and unloving. Please allow us to state the basis for our practice here.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11:27-31, “So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.”

Because we do not know the beliefs of those whom we have not met, we cannot know their beliefs about the Lord’s Supper. It may be that a visitor understands from Christ’s words that his body and blood are really present and that in Communion he truly grants the forgiveness of sins. However, because Scripture gives a strong warning to those who do not “discern the body of Christ” we wish to prevent those who may not yet understand this from “eat[ing] and drink[ing] judgment on themselves.” This is one reason we ask visitors to speak with the pastor before taking communion.

Paul also writes in 1 Corinthians 10:16,17, “Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.”

There are actually two kinds of communion happening in Holy Communion. The first is between us and God. The second is between us and each other. As we gather to eat and drink, we are bound together in the faith, affirming that we confess the same truths from and about Scripture.

This is why we ask all who come to the Lord’s table in our congregation to speak with the pastor beforehand. When we stand before the altar, we are confessing that we believe the same truths as the people to our left and our right. Since we want to affirm all the truths of Scripture, we ask those who do not share our beliefs not to come to the Lord’s table. In the same vein, we do not want to compel you to make a wordless affirmation of our beliefs if you do not share them.

We do not wish the judge the faith of anyone, especially of those whom we don’t know. That would hardly be fair. However, in order to understand better the faith of those worshiping with us, we ask that they speak with our pastor. He would love to hear what you believe and share our beliefs with you as well.
