One Church. One Family. One Service

"One church. One family. One service." This summer, we're experimenting with having one service at 9:30 am. God's blessed us with an amazing new space to use for his worship, and now, we all can fit together as one.

There are all kinds of not-so-good reasons to try one service. Here's a good reason. So-and-so asks me who to talk to about such-and-such. I tell them, "Oh, What'shisname is in charge of that."

"Who?"

"What'shisname. Oh, that's right. He goes to the other service."

Now, I'm not saying you need to spend hours and hours by our photo wall memorizing everyone's picture. You don't have to know who every last person who walks in the door is, just like you don't have to know the name of every last Christian on earth.

But, we're members of the same congregation. Humanly speaking, we have a closer bond with each other than we do with people who go to different churches. We worship in the same place. We dedicate our time to the same work. We give our offerings toward the same ministry. It's natural, then, for us also to get to know each other and have fellowship with each other.

That's one way we can live out who we are as the body of Christ. Last Thursday (May 30), we celebrated Jesus' ascension. In Ephesians 1:19-23, the Apostle Paul tells us, " That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way."

United as Christ's body, living in the forgiveness he's won for us, we work together. We live together. And now, we can worship together.
